  Garden Lecture Series

The Garden Lecture Series at the Pond House includes 8 lectures, with a buffet dinner at the last lecture.  Lecture tickets are $10 each, $75 for the entire series includes a buffet dinner on March 26th.  Time – 7 pm. If you would like to order tickets for yourself or as a gift, please indicate how many tickets you would like for each date.  Below is a description of the first few lectures, followed by an order form and complete schedule.

 

  • January 16       The Care and Culture of House Plants
                             
    Presented by Marci Martin of Woodland Gardens
                              Learn the requirement of house plants, and how to pot, water and propagate many
                              of the cultivars.
     
  • January 23       Go Native
                             
    Presented by Len and lisa of Garden Talk
                              The advantages and disadvantages of native plants  

     
  • January 30        Make-up Date
     
  • February 6        Dear, there is a Deer in our Yard!
                             
    Presented by Dr. Jeffrey Ward, Chief Scientist of the Department of Forestry,
                              Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
                              Dealing with our growing deer population, discussion on the expanding population,
                              deer damage, and ways to control them
     
  • February 13      Vegetable Gardening
                             
     Presented by Anita Dafonte of People, Places and Plants Magazine
                               Building a vegetable garden, what to grow, and how to care for it with tips on
                               preserving your harvest.  

     
  • February 20       Make-up Date
     
  • February 27       Annuals
                               Presented by Bob Prill, Designer of the Elizabeth Park Annual Garden
                               Designing with annuals with emphasis on how to prepare the soil, how to feed the
                               plants and when to water.

     
  • March 5             How to Grow and Cook with Culinary Herbs
                             
      Presented by Kathy and Jack Donohue of the Connecticut Chapter of the American
                                Herb Society, and Louis Lista of the Pond House Cafe.
     
  • March 12           Make-up Date
  • March 19           Hostas and Grasses
                              
    Presented by Bill Turull, Garden Sales of Manchester
                               Explore the wide world of hostas and grasses. Learn requirements of the different
                               cultivars and how they add different dimensions to your landscape. 

         
  • March 26           Cottage Gardening 
                              
    Presented by Nancy DuBrule-Dlemente, Owner, Natureworks
                               Explore cottage gardening in the 21st century with an expert.
